VGEA Spearheads Statewide Survey to Voice Legislative Priorities of Virginia’s State Employees and Retirees

Richmond, VA – The Virginia Governmental Employees Association (VGEA) has initiated a statewide survey to garner the opinions of Virginia’s state employees and retirees regarding their legislative priorities for the 2024 session. This proactive move underscores the association’s enduring commitment to voicing the concerns and aspirations of the state’s public workforce to the Governor and General Assembly of Virginia.

The VGEA Legislative Priorities Survey, accessible to both VGEA members and non-members alike, is designed to be an inclusive platform. While the insights of VGEA members will hold a priority, the association is keen on understanding the broader spectrum of concerns and aspirations across the entire community of state employees and retirees.

In recent years, the VGEA has made significant strides in advocating for competitive salaries. Notably, through relentless advocacy, the association has helped champion a 25% increase in salaries for most Virginia state employees since 2019. However, the VGEA acknowledges that salary increments are just one facet of their advocacy. The survey aims to unearth other pressing issues and priorities, enabling the association to tailor its advocacy efforts accordingly.

“This survey is not just about understanding the legislative priorities but also about reinforcing the collective strength of Virginia’s state employees and retirees. Our advocacy is for all, and the more voices we can represent, the stronger our case before the legislature,” remarked Marshall Terry, Executive Director at the VGEA.

The survey encompasses a blend of structured and open-ended questions. Participants can rate a list of known legislative issues while also having the space to share other concerns or priorities. The structured approach of the survey ensures a comprehensive understanding of the legislative landscape from the perspective of those directly impacted by it.

Virginia’s state employees and retirees can participate in the VGEA Legislative Priorities Survey by visiting vgea.org/survey24. The survey window remains open until November 15, 2023, post which the VGEA will analyze the responses to help shape its advocacy blueprint for the 2024 legislative session. The results will be emailed to VGEA members and posted on the VGEA website and social media channels.

Privacy is Our Priority: The VGEA upholds the highest standards of privacy and confidentiality. Emails, names, and details shared through the survey will remain strictly confidential and will solely be used to understand and advocate for legislative priorities. The VGEA will not share information with any third parties. Contact will only be made if we have a question regarding a survey response.
