VGEA Joins National Conversation at WAGE 2025 Spring Assembly

Advocacy, Partnerships

March 24, 2025 – Virginia Governmental Employee Association (VGEA)

The Virginia Governmental Employees Association (VGEA) proudly represented Virginia at the Working Assembly of Governmental Employees (WAGE) 2025 Spring Assembly held March 20-22, 2025, in Charlotte, NC.

Marshall Terry, Liz B. Baker, Cynthia Brittain, Rick Fowler

VGEA leadership actively participated, bringing insights, experiences, and strategies to the national conversation. The VGEA delegation included Marshall Terry, Executive Director and former WAGE President (currently Member-at-Large on the WAGE Executive Board); Cynthia Brittain, VGEA President; Rick Fowler, VGEA Membership Development Director; and Liz B. Baker, Strategist for VGEA, Executive Director of WAGE, and Chief Advisor at Nimbology.

Throughout the assembly, the VGEA team connected deeply with independently-run public employee advocacy organizations from around the country. They engaged in meaningful discussions, exchanged best practices, and explored practical solutions to common challenges faced by public employees and the organizations that support them.

The assembly featured valuable presentations from national leaders including William Mantle (Washoe County Employees Association), Ardis Watkins (State Employees Association of North Carolina), and Bo Carr (AMBA). Liz B. Baker shared actionable insights on leveraging AI for public employee associations, highlighting how strategic AI use can empower organizations like the VGEA to better support its members.

VGEA’s ongoing participation in WAGE underscores our commitment to advancing the interests of Virginia’s governmental employees through collaboration, strategic innovation, and national partnership.

We look forward to integrating the valuable insights from this assembly to strengthen and enhance our advocacy and member support in Virginia.

Working to Keep Virginia Working

VGEA is the only statewide organization for the broad range of Commonwealth employees.

While there are more than 160,000 of us working in a vast array of professions and jobs, we unite in a desire to be recognized for our dedication to making Virginia a great state.

In short, The Commonwealth of Virginia works because we do!

Whether it’s increasing salaries, improving work conditions or any of the many other employee issues, VGEA is here to help address them all. A strong association with representative members is recognized and invited to decision-making tables in state government. We strive to be relevant, from the 21-year-old new employee to the 100-year-old retiree.

Every employee benefits from the experience and dedication VGEA brings. VGEA matters because you matter!
