2024 General Assembly Session: VGEA Budget Amendments, HB 1390, and Comprehensive Bill Tracking

Proposed Budget Amendments

The Virginia Governmental Employees Association (VGEA) is dedicated to advocating for the rights and benefits of state employees and retirees. A key part of our advocacy during the 2024 session focuses on significant budget amendments that seek to enhance pay and benefits for state and state-supported local employees.

The proposed amendments include a notable increase in compensation compared to the state’s initial budget, aiming for a more substantial and meaningful impact on the lives of our dedicated workforce. For detailed information on these proposed budget amendments, please visit VGEA 2024 Session Budget Amendments.

HB 1390: Strengthening Our Advocacy Channels

Another crucial aspect of our advocacy efforts is House Bill 1390. This bill, if passed, will allow public employee associations like the VGEA to mail state employees at their work addresses with information about the association and the process to join. This legislation is designed to strengthen state employees’ ability to advocate for themselves and stay informed about the resources available to them through VGEA.

We urge our members to take action and support HB 1390. For a template and instructions on how to contact your legislators regarding this bill, please visit Take Action on HB 1390.

Stay Informed: VGEA Bill Tracker

In our commitment to keep you informed and engaged, our lobbyist has compiled a comprehensive list of bills from the current General Assembly session that could potentially impact VGEA members. This list, available on our VGEA Bill Tracker, includes a range of legislation relevant to state employees and retirees. Working to Keep Virginia Working

VGEA is the only statewide organization for the broad range of Commonwealth employees.

While there are more than 160,000 of us working in a vast array of professions and jobs, we unite in a desire to be recognized for our dedication to making Virginia a great state.

In short, The Commonwealth of Virginia works because we do!

Whether it’s increasing salaries, improving work conditions or any of the many other employee issues, VGEA is here to help address them all. A strong association with representative members is recognized and invited to decision-making tables in state government. We strive to be relevant, from the 21-year-old new employee to the 100-year-old retiree.

Every employee benefits from the experience and dedication VGEA brings. VGEA matters because you matter!
