VGEA Scholarship Program

One of the outstanding benefits of VGEA membership is our Scholarship Program.

Since 2011, $10,000 in scholarships have been awarded annually to active and retired members, their spouses, or their children and grandchildren.

The application process begins in December each year and is overseen by the Scholarship Committee of the Board of Directors. Awards are announced in April or May and then checks are sent to each winner’s selected college/university for the following fall semester. The VGEA formally recognizes the winners at its annual general membership meeting held each September in Richmond. Press releases will also be sent to each scholar’s hometown newspaper.

Because the number of applicants (maximum of 100 accepted) greatly exceeds the amount of available funds, the Scholarship Committee has established eligibility and selection criteria that are detailed below.

VGEA awards four annual scholarships each in the amount of $2,500 for the next fall semester.

Eligibility:

  • To be eligible, you need to either be a VGEA member, spouse, child or grandchild of a member.  The member needs to have been a VGEA member in good standing for a full year prior to the application date.
  • Members of the VGEA Board of Directors, VGEA employees and contractors, as well as their spouses, children and grandchildren are not eligible.
  • Previous VGEA scholarship winners are not eligible
  • Only the first 100 applications received will be accepted.
