October 22, 2025 – Virginia Governmental Employee Association (VGEA)

The VGEA is partnering with the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC), the nonpartisan research agency of the Virginia General Assembly, to conduct a short, anonymous survey about the Virginia Retirement System’s Hybrid Retirement Plan.

The survey focuses on how hybrid plan members make decisions about voluntary contributions to their retirement savings. Your participation will help JLARC better understand how state employees engage with the plan and identify opportunities to strengthen retirement readiness across Virginia’s public workforce.

All state employees and retirees are invited to participate, but the survey is especially relevant to Hybrid Retirement Plan members (most non-public-safety employees hired on or after January 1, 2014).

The survey takes about five minutes and is completely anonymous. JLARC’s final report will be presented to the General Assembly on December 16, 2025.

Please share this link with your coworkers, especially those covered by the Hybrid Plan. The more responses JLARC receives, the stronger the representation of Virginia’s public workforce in the findings.

Working to Keep Virginia Working

VGEA is the only statewide organization for the broad range of Commonwealth employees.

While there are more than 160,000 of us working in a vast array of professions and jobs, we unite in a desire to be recognized for our dedication to making Virginia a great state.

In short, The Commonwealth of Virginia works because we do!

Whether it’s increasing salaries, improving work conditions or any of the many other employee issues, VGEA is here to help address them all. A strong association with representative members is recognized and invited to decision-making tables in state government. We strive to be relevant, from the 21-year-old new employee to the 100-year-old retiree.

Every employee benefits from the experience and dedication VGEA brings. VGEA matters because you matter!
