Raises, Bonuses, and a Budget in Limbo: Here’s What Virginia State Employees Need to Know Right Now

Virginia state employees: A major decision is looming that could affect your paycheck, and VGEA members already have the inside scoop.

The 2025 General Assembly session may be over, but the story isn’t. In fact, a critical chapter is still unfolding, and it directly affects your wallet. Right now, Governor Youngkin is holding Virginia’s amended state budget in his hands, and the clock is ticking.

At stake? A proposed 1.5% bonus for state employees. While the 3% raise scheduled for this summer remains secure, that bonus could vanish depending on what the Governor decides in the next few weeks.

And that’s not all. Over 3,000 bills were filed this session. Just over 900 passed. The VGEA’s team tracked every step of the process, and right now, our members are reading a full, exclusive update from our lobbyist Dylan Bishop.
