VGEA has increasingly expanded its role in matters related to workplace protection. We provide advice, and take action where necessary, to protect the workplace rights of State employees; whether they are violated through discriminatory actions, misinterpretation or misapplication of State personnel policies and rules, or an unjust regulation or law.
Often the matter is resolved through a simple email answering a member’s question with regard to a specific workplace situation. Other times the VGEA will offer advice regarding the need for the help of the State Office of Employment Dispute Resolution or private legal assistance. In still other instances, the VGEA will seek a legislative change.
VGEA recently was successful in changing State law dealing with improper payments made to State employees. Before the change, State employees were responsible for repaying any payments received improperly, regardless of the facts surrounding the situation and whether or not the employee could even have known the payment was improper. This change was prompted by a situation involving a number of members in the VGEA’s Prince William Chapter.
Whether the matter is State employees speaking to their legislators, personal use of your workplace computer, misclassification of your job, improper withholding of pay or discrimination for any reason, the VGEA is here to help its members.

J. L. StoneGreat organization and I’m proud to be a member. VGEA worked tirelessly to ensure state employees received a 3% raise this year and not tied to revenue projections. VGEA is our voice to state government. I wish more state employees would join, there is strength in numbers.
