VGEA has a team of professional lobbyists fighting for you at the General Assembly for better pay, health care, working conditions and retirement benefits. VGEA is the only voice at the Capitol every day speaking out on behalf of state employees and retirees and protecting your interests with State Delegates and Senators, the office of the Governor, the Department of Human Resource Management and the Virginia Retirement System Board of Trustees.
The VGEA provides advice, and action, when necessary, to protect your workplace rights; whether they are violated through discriminatory actions, misinterpretation or misapplication of state personnel policies and rules, or an unjust regulation or law.
ForeSight is produced several times a year to keep you updated about the latest happenings in the VGEA, the General Assembly, the Governor’s Administration and State government. (Available in hard copy and electronic form.) Click here to go to the ForeSight page.
The eNews is a quick read covering what is going on at the General Assembly and inside the VGEA. Production of the eNews is monthly in all months in which the General Assembly is not meeting. It is published as the eNews Legislative Report weekly during the General Assembly session. (Available only in electronic form.)
The most up-to-the-minute General Assembly information about the state budget, legislative proposals and committee actions is published weekly in the eNews Legislative Report newsletter sent to all VGEA members with email addresses. Any bill that may impact state workers and retirees are listed individually – along with their status – until they are killed or signed by the Governor. This is a vital resource to tell you when to expect your next raise, health care change or retirement increase. (Available only in electronic form.)
Every member receives an automatic Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance benefit of $4,000 when they join! Just for being a member. No further action is needed, except notifying VGEA of the member’s passing. No additional cost to you, only your member dues.
Other discounted insurance programs are available: auto, critical illness, dental, group term life, hospital indemnity, identity theft, legal, long-term care and short-term disability insurance. Call the office for more information.
Member discounts with savings at businesses across the state and nation, including wholesale clubs, amusement/theme parks, cellphone plans, Broadway shows, movie tickets, hotel and rental car discounts, plus many more!
Ten-thousand dollars in college scholarships are awarded annually to VGEA members and their family members! You read that right: four $2,500 awards are presented to students who are VGEA members, or the spouses, children or grandchildren of members each spring for the following fall semester. Applications for each year are posted in the late fall for the following spring awards.

Great organization and I’m proud to be a member. VGEA worked tirelessly to ensure state employees received a 3% raise this year and not tied to revenue projections. VGEA is our voice to state government. I wish more state employees would join, there is strength in numbers.Carolyn Bethea
